課程概述 |
本課程的目的在培養學生科學地研究社會現象的能力。修習者不需具備熟練的數量方法(quantitative method)能力，同時本課程也不打算教導有關數量方法方面的技能，因為那是另一個專門課程的事。整個課程分為：探索的概論、研究的建構、觀察的方法三大部份。在探索的概論部份，首先教導同學們人類如何透過科學的方法來探索問題，其次社會科學界有那些典範在研究人類社會的問題，社會科學界的因果關係本質又如何？在研究的建構部份，將介紹如何進行研究設計、如何概念化及測量、如何操作化、如何建立觀察的指標以及如何抽樣。在觀察的方法部份，將介紹實驗法、調查研究法、田野調查法以及非介入性研究法。全部課程共計十六週，以教師講授為主，同學參與討論為輔。 |

第十週：《作業與討論》
經過前幾週地學習後，您現在可以選擇一個感興趣的問題。提出初步的研究架構，應包括下列幾部分：
（一）問題緣起
具體而簡單地陳述你所要研究的題目？並說明你為什麼要研究這個題目？或者說明你要研究此一題目的動機是什麼？
（二）研究此一問題的意義
說明此一問題在理論上及經驗上的意義(significance)，以及在科學研究及知識上的重要性(importance)。此一問題應該如何才能夠更精確地被描述、詮釋、評估、批判、預測、或掌握。
（三）文獻檢討
回顧、檢討既有文獻在這方面的記載，並預示你將要怎麼做。檢討既有文獻至少要在：問題形成、研究方法、研究發現與解釋等三大部份加以評論，若僅引用既有文獻內容而無評論，將會被退回重寫。
（四）概念界定與建構類型
整個研究有那些主要的概念？如何界定？如何運作化或測量？如果涉及建構類型，需說明建構類型所依據的思考或觀察面向(dimensions)。若運用理念類型（idea type），需說明如何設計此一理念類型。
（五）分析架構與研究假設
描繪出此一研究的分析架構？說明所涉及變數的性質？那些是獨立變數？那些是依變數？那些又是中介變數？這些變數之間的關係是否皆屬回溯性(recursive)？或者有些是屬於非回溯性(non-recursive)？
說明此以一研究所涉及的理論、定理，並進而導引出所欲驗證的假設。

課程要求 |
成績評量方式
本課程的成績評量分式，以繳交報告為主（佔70%），輔以平常討論的成績（佔30%）。報告有兩篇，第一篇在學期中繳交，第二篇在學期結束的一週內繳交，前一篇就第一部份的學習心得寫成，後一篇則運用第二、三部分所學習知識，尋找一題材，實際操作後寫成。
